00:00:00: Speed learning, the success techniques for you and your life.
00:00:14: Hello!
00:00:14: And welcome back to speedlearning – your podcast where you learn how to learn faster remember more and recall what you've learned with confidence.
00:00:22: this podcast is of course also available in German French Spanish and Italian because we want to prove that learning languages works.
00:00:32: Links are in the description, by the way.
00:00:35: Today we're tackling one of the most important questions How can you store knowledge so that you actually keep it?
00:00:44: because The biggest problem is not learning It's forgetting.
00:00:48: your brain Is a master and forgetting?
00:00:50: Your brain is designed to forget as much As possible.
00:00:54: So why We Forget?
00:00:56: well forgetting is Not A Flow its A Feature!
00:00:59: Your Brain Filters Unimportant Information which is directly deleted and important information, which is kept.
00:01:09: So the problem?
00:01:10: Your brain doesn't automatically know what's important to you!
00:01:14: You have to show it.
00:01:16: so repetition tells your brain this matters.
00:01:20: Repetition & Emotion.
00:01:23: Well now if can motivate you to be thrilled or flabbergasted or extremely excited when having contact with your learning material, then repetition is probably your way.
00:01:39: Okay the biggest myth reviewing by rereading.
00:01:43: many people think I just read it again.
00:01:46: well we had this in our last episode.
00:01:48: The problem you recognize the content but you can't recall It.
00:01:52: that's an illusion of knowledge.
00:01:55: So active recall instead of passive re-reading You remember.
00:02:00: if not Listen to the last podcast episode again.
00:02:05: Okay, so recall is the most powerful technique.
00:02:07: and recall active recall means you forced your brain To retrieve information examples.
00:02:12: You answer questions?
00:02:14: So explain without notes And you're filling the gaps.
00:02:19: and why it works?
00:02:20: because retrievalis training a memory for the key ideas.
00:02:25: what you retrieve you retain.
00:02:29: One wonderful technique, therefore is the space repetition system.
00:02:33: The timing hack!
00:02:35: It's not just how you review it when because the principle Review Just Before You Forget.
00:02:43: and there has been a psychologist called Ebbinghaus And Ebbing Haus described this like one hundred twenty years ago for one hundred Twenty Years We have ignored in our schools at universities.
00:02:58: now needed somebody like me to put it back on the table and show you, this is a simple schedule.
00:03:06: Day one day three days seven day fourteen and day thirty.
00:03:10: And each repetition becomes faster easier at more stable.
00:03:16: So here are the three best memory techniques.
00:03:19: Let's make it practical.
00:03:21: Technique One Visual visualization Visualisation Visualization Visualization.
00:03:35: Your brain loves images.
00:03:36: For example, instead of just a banana imagine huge glowing bananas.
00:03:43: The more unusual the better.
00:03:45: Imagine doing things with this banana like holding it on a pistol or knocking its door to knock.
00:03:57: Who's there?
00:03:58: Anyway.
00:03:59: Technique to association, assoziation, associazione, association.
00:04:06: Connect new information with something familiar.
00:04:09: Example a new word combined it With an image and known situation.
00:04:15: The more personal the stronger It will be!
00:04:19: Technique three story method Link multiple items into short stories.
00:04:25: For example, car tree book.
00:04:27: A car crashes into a tree and the book flies out.
00:04:31: This makes sentences easier to remember And so sequences as well.
00:04:39: Now let's have look at your personal review system.
00:04:42: Let's combine everything.
00:04:43: Turn notes in to questions not text Questions.
00:04:49: Ask yourself what might somebody who has taken an exam from me Ask me.
00:04:57: What might my professor, teacher or boss ask about?
00:05:02: If I have to tell somebody what i've learned today... ...what would this person ask me and how could he ask deeper questions?
00:05:13: Step two daily mini-reviews five to ten minutes Two three topics Five questions per topic And then step three.
00:05:22: use spaced repetition.
00:05:23: So you repeat it Day one Then after three days and then of the week, two weeks or one month.
00:05:31: Step four is explain it actively.
00:05:33: that's what we mentioned last time.
00:05:35: so hopefully you already do that.
00:05:38: Explain out loud or in writing short and clear again different levels of explanation for a kid For young adult an expert maybe also in different languages.
00:05:53: this will make a lot and make it a lot easier for you to remember things.
00:05:59: The most common mistake, most people do they have too much input two long sessions and too little review.
00:06:05: better less input more review.
00:06:09: Now listen this is the eleventh episode of this podcast And if you recall what you have learned from these podcasts so far You can analyze your learning strategy.
00:06:21: how has changed?
00:06:23: If feel that after each podcast episode, something new has been adapted and changed.
00:06:30: So you're on the way and improving every week with this help of his podcast then it's perfect.
00:06:41: but if you have the impression well now he is listening to this podcast in the morning when I brush my teeth i listen Somehow that's not relevant for me because I'm a completely different learning type.
00:06:59: I have to write everything down, highlight every thing and re-read it one hundred times And then maybe one day i might learn it.
00:07:09: Then well... It is okay if you subscribe to the podcast and give nice reviews but this does NOT make you better in learning.
00:07:21: So.. I just want to encourage you to take the content of that podcast and implement it into your life.
00:07:33: So let's input more review!
00:07:36: Try this now, pick one topic write five questions answer them without help and review again tomorrow And then in a week.
00:07:45: That is already perfect.
00:07:46: start and everything you can recall after one month Is probably stored so deeply You will keep at least for your exam or whenever you need it.
00:08:02: Imagine a doctor, somebody studying medicine the amount of information they have to learn.
00:08:12: They won't be able to recall everything when they work as a GP or surgeon Or whatever Doctor.
00:08:21: So The same with a lawyer...they had to learn so many things during their time in university and Ninety-five percent of what they've ever learned is forgotten.
00:08:35: So that's why they have to use books or now touch the PT, whatever to find out whats going on with their clients and patients or customers.
00:08:46: so make your brain The power most powerful machine not your mobile phone Okay?
00:08:54: So the key points again summarize forgetting as normal it's wanted by you brain, active recall is essential.
00:09:05: Therefore the timing makes a difference and images associations and stories boost memory.
00:09:12: And if you want to have some more speed learning input just contact us and we will give you Some private training To become a speed-learning expert.
00:09:26: One line to remember memory is built through retrieval not through reading.
00:09:31: And if you are a teacher, for example and would like to learn these speed learning techniques.
00:09:35: To teach them to your students?
00:09:39: To help them.

00:10:05: All right, so if this episode helped you subscribe and start building your review system today take some time after the spot cast episode end review and summarize for yourself what has been mentioned here?
00:10:21: And how and when and where we'll be able to implement these strategies, or try it out to prove I'm wrong.
00:10:35: Yeah?
00:10:36: That's the biggest challenge.
00:10:38: if you say well...I will do this!
00:10:41: I'll do these spaced repetitions stuff simply to prove that he is WRONG.
00:10:49: That what i like most because then convince yourself and in next episode we go on with the next step how to accelerate your learning with the right strategies and shortcuts.
00:11:03: The Pareto Principle Prioritization, what a great word!
00:11:12: Prioritizazione and focus alright?
00:11:17: So thanks for listening.
00:11:18: see you next time.
00:11:19: And as always remember You don't need to study more... ...you just need to remember better.
